Travel to Conference
Duke University is in Durham, North Carolina and the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill is in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA. These two campuses are only approximately 10 miles apart with regular shuttles and public transportation connecting them. UNC will host conference events on Friday and Sunday, while Duke will play host on Saturday. Nearby large cities include Greensboro and Raleigh, NC.
How to get there
By car
The best driving directions are those customized for you. Go to http://maps.google.com/ and click “get directions”. For a rough idea to the center of campus, type in the UNC-CH zip code as your destination.
By train
If you take an Amtrack you should stop in Cary, which is a town about 30 minutes from UNC-CH by car. From there you can either get a taxi or for $2 get a bus. If using the bus, take the Route 301 to the Regional Transit Center (RTC) and from there take either the 800 or 805 to UNC (either South Road or Manning Drive stops). Service is not 24/7 so be sure to check schedules: http://triangletransit.org/bus/maps-and-schedules/
By plane
Fly to Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU)
Your options from the airport to UNC-CH are:
TAXI/SHUTTLE: A taxi from RDU to Chapel Hill will cost between $25 and $45 depending on what company you choose. There will also be taxis waiting. To make ride sharing easier for conference attendees, please feel welcome to submit your RDU arrival time and your contact info to conference2010@essentialmedicine.org
Two days before the conference, we will then send the list of people who want to taxi-pool back to you. You can look at the arrival times and decide if sharing makes sense for you. Here are a few companies starting with the cheapest.

BUS:
The bus is the cheapest option on Friday, part of Saturday, and Monday. Unfortuantely, it is NOT an option for departure on Sunday. Since most people will arrive sometime on Friday, details for Friday are provided below:
From the airport, go outside and take the Triangle Transit Authority “Route 100: Raleigh-Airport-RTC”. It will cost $2 (CASH) and the last bus leaves the airport at 10:09pm. Request a transfer from the driver. Stop at the “Regional Transit Center (RTC)”. The bus stops there by default and it will be obvious when you are there because it’s a big bus station. Then, take either the Route 800 or the Route 805 to Chapel Hill, whichever you see first! Both the 800 and 805 go to both South Road (north campus) and Manning Drive (south campus near the hospital) in Chapel Hill and they stop there by default. These stops are both in the middle of campus and you will recognize that you are at a university. Schedules of the relevant stops are provided below. On Saturday, there are fewer buses and the last Route 100 from the airport you can take leaves at 6:09pm. For full bus schedules see http://triangletransit.org/bus/maps-and-schedules/
